Oldsmar, FL, March 6, 2015 – Oldsmar Cares and the people living in and around the city of Oldsmar celebrated the Oldsmar Cares 5th Annual Wine and Food Gala. Nearly 350 people gathered at the Nielsen Ballroom eager to taste the delicious dishes prepared by eight local area restaurants and sip wine, craft beer and the Sweetheart Gala-tini specialty drink. The evening raised $63,172 with generous contributions from Diamond level sponsors including the City of Oldsmar, Senator Jack Latvala, Nielsen and Tampa Bay Downs. "The Oldsmar Cares volunteers are responsible for producing the greatest Gala in our 5 year history,” said David Wallace, Oldsmar Cares Gala co-Chair. “We have received so many calls, emails and text messages raving about the superior auction items, gorgeous decorations, great wines and food and wonderful volunteers. What a fantastic night for Oldsmar residents.”

The event was changed from standing room only to seating for all attendees and Nielsen’s cafeteria magically transformed to an elegant ballroom. “We hoped the seating change would make the evening more enjoyable for our guests," said Scott Nixon, Oldsmar Cares Vice Chairperson, "and based on the feedback we've received, the result surpassed our expectations.”

The photo booth, donated by CCS Photography, and the spin-the-wheel giveaway, provided by The Brass Tap, were both crowd pleasers. The restaurants outdid themselves by serving up their signature dishes. This year Salt Rock Tavern won the award for Best Taste, Amici's Catered Cuisine won Best Presentation, and Cuban Breezes won Best Overall.

The events slogan, Oldsmar Cares Lights the Way, inspired Gala attendees with its message of giving. “So many folks need a little help with food, money or just to keep the electricity on. Oldsmar Cares helps so many people without significant administrative costs.  The Gala was a great success. I’d like to say well done!” Dave Enos, Oldsmar resident.

Oldsmar Mayor and US 103.5 radio personality Doug Bevis entertained the crowd as Master of Ceremonies. “From the first year I did this event I have been amazed at what a class operation it is and for a great cause. It continues to improve every year. I’m glad to be a part of it,” said Bevis. Auctioneer Chris Bohr, with help from Mayor Bevis and Oldsmar Councilwoman Linda Norris, auctioned off items like a one-day trip on a sailing yacht, a Saddlebrook golf and accommodation package, and the opportunity to be a "firefighter for a day" with Oldsmar Fire Rescue.
