OLDSMAR BUSINESSES TEAM UP TO FIGHT HUNGER THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
Oldsmar, FL, November 3, 2014 – For the 6th year in a row Eric Allen, the employees of Burri & Company and his family have rolled up their sleeves to help fight hunger in their community. “I started this campaign when my kids were young hoping it would instill a sense of community and awareness,” said Eric Allen, President, Burri & Company. “Working on this food drive as a family is something we look forward to each year.”
The event started in 2008 with 12 businesses participating. Eric’s wife and kids were the main contributors to the work effort, covering boxes with wrapping paper and collecting the food in his pick-up truck. Last year MicroLumen donated over 500lbs of food. Robin Reynolds, VP Finance at MicroLumen said this year they anticipate even more. This year the goal is 100 businesses donating food and with still a few weeks left we’re almost 30% of the way there. With that much food to collect Eric looked to his friends, Ben Gordon, Marketing Coordinator, at Two Men And A Truck and Mark Spicola, owner of Bay Area DKI to help collect and move all the food. In addition to food donations companies have also chosen to make cash donations. Early in the recruiting process Eric contacted Keenan Knopke of Curlew Hills Memory Gardens to participate in the food drive. “We wanted to help and knew a $2000 donation could make a big impact to an organization like Oldsmar Cares,” said Knopka. “We were happy to help.”
“We are so grateful to Eric Alan and Burri & Company for all their hard work and determination. The holidays are a busy time at the Oldsmar Cares pantry and as an all-volunteer organization the coordination of a food drive of this size is very beneficial in both food and helping hands.” said Brenda Gaulin, chairperson, Oldsmar Cares.
The enthusiasm of everyone working on this campaign is contagious. One of Burri & Company employees volunteered to put on the “Can Man” costume to help raise awareness for the drive. Can Man’s motto “I can help solve Florida’s hunger problem…All you have to do is pull me out of your pantry!” resonates with local area businesses. All ages, young and old can participate as seen by two of Our local schools, Forest Lakes Elementary and Oldsmar Elementary.
Thirty (30) companies so far have joined Burri & Company to participate in this year’s food drive including Achieva Westchase & Land O’ Lakes, Amici's Catered Cuisine, Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza, Aston Gardens at Tampa Bay, BankUnited, N.A., Bay Area DKI, BB & T Oldsmar, Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More of Oldsmar, Burri Insurance, Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf & Family Sports Complex,Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club, Chick-fil-A at Oldsmar FSR, Daddy's Grill, Forest Lakes Elementary, Gasco, Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tampa Northwest-Oldsmar , Jack Willie’s Bar, Grill and Tiki, Kanter and Associates, PA CPAs, Karl Flammer Ford, MicroLumen, Nielsen, Oldsmar Elementary, Reltco, Inc, Speedpro Imaging, Stahl & Associates Insurance, Inc., Stansfeld Scott Inc., SunTrust Bank , Turtle Beach Foodservice, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®/Pinellas, Upper Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce, Walgreens.
