The Gala Co-Chair, Mike McKnight, declared that this event’s success would help Oldsmar Cares to provide greater services for Oldsmar’s needy. He said, “This expansion will continue to support the core services now provided, such as: a food pantry, clothing closet and financial assistance. And also make more room for expanded services like OldsmarWorks career counseling, Weekend Food for Kids staging and distribution and a shower and washer/dryer for those in need.

To support Oldsmar Cares’ vision, eleven of the Oldsmar area’s best restaurants treated guests to their signature dishes. These restaurants included Applebee’s, Amici’s Catered Cuisine, Casa Cosenza, Green Market Café, Hot Tuna, Mother’s, Rumba Island Bar & Grill, Salt Rock Tavern, Southern Foodservice and Suegra Tequila Cantina.
Each Gala features awards to recognize the restaurants attending the event and voted for by the guests. This year Suegra Tequila Cantina won Best Presentation, Amici Catered Cuisine won Best Taste and Hot Tuna won Best Overall.
Oldsmar Mayor Doug Bevis reprised his role as Master of Ceremonies and Auctioneer for this event. Auction items included “Snoopy the Builder” as the auction opener, a romantic vacation getaways to St Petersburg, two fantasy car weekend featuring a BMW Series 4 and Porsche Boxster convertible, and Oldsmar Fire and Rescue “Firefighter for a Day!” Snoopy was chosen as the official mascot of this year’s Gala to kick-off the “Raise the Roof” theme in style. Snoopy only stood 2.5 feet tall, but came dressed in an official Oldsmar Cares yellow hardhat and work belt. Ready to take on the task our flying ace fetched a $400 closing bid to start the auction in style.
Sales of commemorative bricks, a “Raise the Roof” t-shirt and new sponsorship levels were very successful in raising money for the Oldsmar Cares’ new building project.
